Cleaning Guide for Marble and Granite Tiles

Published on Thursday, 04 March 2010

Houses today have beautiful architectural design. Designs and materials are mostly from natural stones and materials. This is the reason why most houses kitchen tops and floorings are made from Granite or Marble Tiles.
If your house' flooring and counter tops are made from these popular tiles, you need to know their basic composition in order to clean them properly without wearing out their colors.
Marbles are alkaline-based stones. They are made from calcium carbonate and calcite that can easily absorb stains because of the swirls of veining in their composition. They are also vulnerable to dulling and scratches. This is the reason why you need to be careful in choosing the cleaning solutions for these tiles.
You need to get detergents and cleaning solutions that have neutral pH because any cleaning agents that contain a high alkaline solution can make your marble tiles dull.
Granite, on the other hand, is more scratch, stain, and resistance proof. This is also the reason why they are very expensive because only diamonds could scratch their surface.
The chemical composition of Granites is similar to the composition of lava. It is very solid and has a glossy and well polished finished. Granite can be cleaned using a neutral pH cleanser with a non-yellow wax.
Now that you know the composition of Granite and Marble Tiles, you will be able to get the appropriate cleaning materials when you buy in the grocery store.
